INTERACTION 2007

This project is part of a series set up by Blaengar, and this is the second time we have organised the event ‘Interaction’.

The project will enable us to put on an festival style event with temporary public art in and around Aberystwyth and including performances programme during the week of the event.
Location:
Across Aberystwyth town, with a temporary base on the Kings Hall Square area in front of Ceredigion Museum based on the design of a beach hut, similar to the shelters on the prom.

Description:
A series of interventions (performances, video projections and sculpture installations) taking place in Aberystwyth Town Centre during September 2007. Around eight artists will work individually and in groups in a variety of different media including video, performance and temporary sculptures creating a series of exciting and innovative new works inspired by the town centre.

Blaengar will look to build on the audience it has generated during the previous year and will focus on the residents of the town and surrounding areas. The museum and the bandstand are possible sites for work.

We will collaborate with Axis Arts Resource, a National arts organisation which plans to host an arts event with Blaengar in Aberystwyth Arts Centre during the week of the project. Axis are planning a Cafe Artistique event on November 5th with Alice Briggs (Blaengar Project Coordinator) as Artist in Residence.

Blaengar will provide arts workshops for schools during the Big Draw week 6th-11th October in Ceredigion Museum which will draw inspiration from the work produced for the project.

Artists:
• ‘White Rope’ (Laura Harding and Becky Jones): graduate group from Newport Art school based in Aberystwyth and Cardiff. Becky Jones plans to create a series of photographic banners that will be placed on the prom and around town, based on her performance photography.
Laura Harding is planning a postcard art project, which will form part of the publicity for the project, but will be an art work in its own right.
• Ffion Rhys, Video Artist and Artist Educator, from Tregaron based in Cardiff.
• Ailsa Richardson and Rowan O’Neill performance artists. They are interested in working with the idea of the guided tour, and creating interventions in a unique tour around Aberystwyth.
• Alys Owen works in textiles and other media. She is interested in natural forms from nature within her work. Philippe Murphy creates installations that resemble interior spaces, and his work deals with travel as a form of escapism and a tendency to seek distraction or relief from reality. They plan to create two large billboard art pieces which will be sited around town. Possible sites include the Morrison’s roundabout, Southgate, Aberystwyth and Penglais
Hill
• Alice Briggs Aberystwyth, Coordinator and artist will create a temporary structure on a trailer that can be toured around town, but also sited much of the kings hall square that will be used a base for the work. Other performance, installation and sound work may also be developed.
